Natural light is never the same twice. It shifts with the hour, the season and the surface it bounces off — and that variability is exactly what gives a portrait atmosphere.
Late afternoon light wraps around a face instead of hitting it. Skin keeps its texture, eyes keep their catchlight, and the background falls away into warm colour.
Indoors, a large window does much the same thing. Standing a step back from it gives soft, directional light that flatters almost everyone.
Shade matters as much as sun. Open shade under trees or beside a building produces even, gentle light with no squinting.
This is why sessions are scheduled around light rather than convenience. An hour earlier or later can change the entire feeling of your gallery.
